Reflections on reading, writing, running, religion or anything else that interests me, even if it does not begin with an "r" sound.

authors don't know literature
OK, so the title of this post is a bit smarmy, but I really have to differ with the 125 famous authors who chose the greatest books of all time. This list is predictable, for the most part, as it chooses primarily difficult books and primarily modernist works. It seems the hold the modernists have over this generation of writers is fairly clear, which is disappointing. Note also that there are no poets or collections of poems and the only authors they list from their 125 are fiction writers. And is Faulkner really the only American author to get into the top 10? Just sad.
